Missing Children and Parents
Our activities have found that while parents are acvtive in seeking their child when contact is lost, children are also active in seeking their parents when they reach a certain age, around puberty and some cases slightly earlier. Left Behind Parents Japan offers a profile for both, parents and children. Use the link here to upload information about a missing child or parent.

Forced custody transfer orders hit 120 in 2010 / Enforcement unsuccessful in many cases
Written by: The Yomiuri ShimbunA Supreme Court survey shows district courts ordered the forcible transfer of a child from one parent to another in 120 cases nationwide in 2010, amid a rapid increase in disputes between divorcing couples over the custody of their children. In the first survey of its kind, the court found the children were successfully transferred in 58 cases, or 48 percent of the time. In the remaining cases, the transfer failed because the parent rejected the courts "direct enforcement" order... Read More... |

Child abduction issue should be key concern in Japan-U.S. relation 01/15/2011Though former Prime Minister Naota Kan announced on May 20 last year that Japan intends to sign The Hague Convention, Japan is the only G8 member that has yet to become a signatory. LBPs (Left Behind Parents) are cautious to find the signing as reason to cheer because changes are also needed in Japan's family courts for them to be reunited with their children. The continued condoning of both domestic and international child abduction cases can be traced to Japan's family court...Read More... |

Left Behind Parents Japan and Asian People's Friendship Society hold meeting with former Justice Minister Eda to discuss Joint Policy Statement and LBP issues
Our founder, Masako Akeo Suzuki explained who we were and introduced LBPJ & APFS' Joint Policy Statement. She talked about the need for Japan to establish a Joint Custody System and indicated we knew the Diet was about to make changes to the current Family Law System. Mr. Eda interjected to say "they had discussed proposals for change to the Family Law in order to accede to the Hague Convention", Masako indicated we understood that and it was our opinion that in conjunction with signing the Hague Convention, Japan should also change to a Joint Custody System.
